Come and have a go!
We have many representative crews that train up to 3-4 times a week throughout the year, especially prior to major competition events. These are crews that are picked to race against other gig clubs on the CPGA circuit.
The club runs dedicated weekly sessions for new/novice rowers. These sessions are normally run between May until September but wil be starting early this year. You are invited to come down and try the sport of Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing from Tuesday 25th March onwards (weather permitting). These sessions are run by experienced coxswains and rowers helping you to learn the basics and progress your rowing ability at your own pace.
Sessions are run on the following nights starting from 6pm:
|
Monday |
Juniors* |
|
Tuesday |
Novices - Mixed |
|
Wednesday |
Ladies Racing |
*All juniors are required to wear lifejackets (supplied by the club) whilst in the gig.
Most of these sessions are spent learning the technique of rowing although some short, fun inter-novice racing takes place occasionally as well as a dedicated novice cup race at the end of the season on the full course. Junior rowing runs to a similar format with beginners and experienced rowers rowing together. There are many junior cup races throughout the season (see fixture list ) raced over short straight courses around the bay. The start date for Junior training has not yet been set for 2008.
So if you fancy learning to row, come along to one of the nights. All equipment is provided, just bring yourself and wear suitable training clothes (shorts, t-shirt, vest, tracksuit bottoms etc) and footwear you don't mind getting wet (old trainers, sandals etc). Your first 3 rows are free, thereafter you will be required to purchase a full rowing membership. See Membership for more info. We look forward to seeing you!
